I "Marie Kondo'd" my House and...

... a huge lightbulb went off.

During my own process of decluttering, I utilized some of the #konmari techniques and wow. What a lightbulb moment for me.

At first I thought this whole konmarie thing was a little hokey pokey... and to be honest, until you actually try it (and are honest with yourself) it kind of is! Just listening to myself as "Does this shirt spark joy" felt ridiculous... until I felt it.

Not only did it help me part with many items (I mean... over 90 individual items from my closet), but it really opened my eyes to just how much "stuff" I had.

I am blown away by how much we buy with no purpose. It may seem extreme but as I shop this year (and I LOVE to shop) I am going to try to ask myself for each item if it sparks joy or has an immediate (and long term) purpose.

Reflecting after my decluttering process, I began to realize how often I buy in “bulk” just because it’s ON SALE. What a trap!! I almost bought two pairs of jeans from American Eagle this weekend knowing full well that I have four GOOD pairs at home... all because they were BOGO! I didn’t end up buying them... maybe for a combination of reasons (I just ate a huge dinner... the mall was closing... I wasn’t in love with the fit...) but damn... that took a LOT of discipline either way.

I challenge you to take a look around the room you are sitting in. The item to your immediate right, does it spark joy? Does it serve a purpose? If not, why are you keeping it? Let me know, I am curious to hear.
