Scrolling along facebook today, I found this article that explains why the #KonMari method is what it is:

Everyone that has been following along should know that the purpose of the KonMarie method is NOT to get rid of EVERYTHING. Everyone will take something different away from watching Marie Kondo, but the purpose that I have found is to get rid of the excess that is causing you anxiety.
One more time for the people in the back: The purpose is to get rid of the excess. The excess that is causing you anxiety.
Personally, we had a lot of little things that added up and in general, did not increase or contribute my standard of living or my future. For example, a POP Figurine that I had bought years ago meant something to me then but today when I look at it and hold it, I do not feel the same sentiment. When I touched it for a moment I could hear Marie's voice in the back of my mind... "Does it spark joy?"... and for a moment, I tried to argue with myself and create that joy. I tried to fabricate a reason to keep this item. Then, I could hear all of my high school instructors telling me "If you cheat on this exam, you're only cheating yourself!". When I stopped arguing with myself and stopped trying to fabricate joy, I realized that I truly did not feel anything towards the figurine at all. When I was honest with myself, the answer to Marie's question was no.
With that said, your POP figurine collection (swap in: books, magazines, sewing kits) might cause you an immense amount of joy. Maybe the root of your anxiety is the way that you are sorting and displaying your collection. Maybe when you think of your collection, it does not cause you any anxiety at all.
